Effie Jean Batts

LITTLETON – Effie Jean Batts, age 90, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on July 9, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Shelton Bernice Smith and Alma Estelle Daniel Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Junior Batts; her son, Robert Shelton Batts; her sister, Rose W. Bellamy; and her brother, Stanley F. Smith.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and homemaker whose greatest joy in life was her family. She loved her family dearly and treasured the time they shared together. For most of her life, Jean was a homemaker, dedicating herself to caring for her family and creating a loving home filled with warmth and cherished memories.

Jean also worked as a bookkeeper at Scruggs Poultry in Rocky Mount, where she remained until her retirement. She was known for her caring heart, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.

Jean’s family was the center of her world, and she found great happiness in being there for the people she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and countless memories that will be treasured by her family and friends.

Though she will be deeply missed, Jean’s love and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Jean is survived by her sons, Shane Batts, of Littleton, and Anthony Batts (Deana), of Elm City; her daughter, Denise Batts (Tina), of Littleton; her daughter-in-law, Pam Batts, of Rocky Mount; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A special gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 661 English Road Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
