Eva Estelle Powell Prince

Rocky Mount Eva Estelle Powell Prince, 92, passed away on Sunday, September 23, 2018 surrounded by her children at Vidant Health Care in Tarboro NC. She was born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 1, 1926 to the parents of Marion (Bee) N. Powell and Lillie Wilkins Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion (Bee) N. Powell and Lillie Wilkins Powell; her former husband, James Barton Prince Sr.; her sister Lorene Powell Perkins and a brother, Marion Elmo Powell. Eva is survived by a loving family which includes her son, James Barton Prince Jr.; daughter, Belva Prince Parker; and son, Kevin Eugene Prince; a sister, Clara Powell Neal; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Eva retired from Montgomery Ward where she worked in the business office for many years and was a long-time member of West Edgecombe Baptist Church and throughout the years she contributed to several charities. Beautiful flowers were always a part of her life and she loved to work in the garden. She was faithful to her friends and family always putting others first. She was a talented quilt maker and a fantastic cook but most of all she was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and friend as she was the matriarch of the family and was seen to be the tie that binds the family together. To know her was to love her and to lose her will be to miss her. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 29, 2018 just prior to the 2:00 pm service at West Edgecombe Baptist Church, Rocky Mount, NC followed with a graveside service, in the Powell Family Cemetery with the Dr. Jeffrey C. Chappell officiating. Other times the family will receive visitors at the Powell Homeplace, 1093 Powell Rd., Rocky Mount, NC.
