Gary P. Kappel, Sr.

ROCKY MOUNT – Gary P. Kappel, Sr. age 86, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025. Born in Baltimore, Maryland on October 21, 1938, he was the son of the late Raymond Philip Kappel, and Evelynn Lurene Wischhusen Kappel.

Gary, an avid pool shark, was also a passionate outdoorsman, spending countless hours camping and fishing. His skilled hands brought life to wood, crafting intricate duck carvings and other woodworking projects that reflected his deep appreciation for the artistry found in the world around him. Gary was a longtime and devoted member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wilson, North Carolina, where his faith provided him with strength and community. He also served his community with dedication as a volunteer member of the Mechanicsville Rescue Squad in Mechanicsville, Maryland, demonstrating his commitment to helping others in times of need. Beyond his hobbies and service, Gary was a master storyteller, captivating those around him with tales of his adventures and experiences. He had a natural gift for connecting with people, and his laughter and vibrant personality filled any room.

Gary  is survived by his wife of 40, years Beverly Kappel; his daughters, Tracy Jerome (Michael), Michelle Kappel-Stone; sons, Gary Kappel, Jr. (Brenda), Michael Rymer (Shawny); grandchildren, Melissa Jerome, Samuel Jerome (Hannah Holtgrewe), Melanie Sirbaugh (Noah), Shane Rymer, Louis Rymer, Julia Rymer, Molli Rymer, Austin Heath, Cory Faulkner (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Everly Pindell, Lydian Pindell, Matthew Faulkner.
