George Alton Bottoms, Sr.

BATTLEBORO – George Alton Bottoms, Sr., age 79, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on May 27, 1943, he was the son of the late George Burnice Bottoms and Polly Williams Bottoms. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kay Francis Shearin Bottoms; his grandson, Aaron Bottoms; his sister, Katie Taylor; and his brother, Bobby Bottoms. George was a great outdoors man and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and nature watching. He was a great cook and loved cooking and grilling for his family and friends. George was an avid Nascar fan and always woke up a little more excited on Sunday mornings during the season. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. George was a Mason of Corinthian Lodge 230 of Rocky Mount. George was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved nothing better than spending time with them. George is survived by his son, George Alton Bottoms, Jr. and wife, Kelly, of Whitakers; his grandchildren, Katlyn Sutton, Halei Bottoms, John Boulden, and Mary Boulden; multiple great-grandchildren; his sisters, Janice Holder, Brenda Mott, and Wanda Carpenter; and his brother, Rodger Bottoms. A Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Williams Family Cemetery, 1429 Flood’s Store Road, Rocky Mount with Rev. Jerome Mozingo officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in George’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St, Oxford, NC 27565.
