ROCKY MOUNT – George T. Colbert, Jr., age 61, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on January 23, 1965, he was preceded in death by, George Thomas Colbert, Sr.; grandparents, Jim and Irene Cooper, and Joe and Gevie Colbert.

George was a proud United States Marine who loved his country and dedicated his life to serving others. He spent an incredible 49 years in Fire and EMS starting as a junior firefighter with Stoney Creek Fire and Rescue and also included 15 years as a paramedic serving Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson and Halifax Counties, and volunteered at Nashville Fire Department and Coopers Fire Department until his retirement in 2017. A well-known and highly respected paramedic, George touched countless lives through his dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping others.

George loved his family dearly and treasured every opportunity to spend time with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he especially enjoyed the many tractor rides they shared together. He also loved riding his motorcycle and spending time in his garden, taking great pride in planting and caring for the things he grew.

George will be remembered for his service to his country, his dedication to his community, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family. He was an example of a true family man. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

George is survived by his wife of 37 years, Michelle Colbert; daughters, Jodi Sova (Bryan), Caitlin Colbert (Greg), Kristen Langrehr (Jonathan), Haily Colbert (Logan); grandchildren, Aydon, Landon, Jase, Gavin, Scarlett, Carson, and little baby Pierce due in 2027; mother, Jackie Patterson; brother, Jimmy Colbert (Tammy); sisters, Penny Davis (Troy), Tracy Webb (Rodney), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at 6:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Service 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC  27804. A visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM prior to the service in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
