Gertrude Manning Glover

May 22, 1943 ~ June 7, 2018

Bethel - Gertrude Manning Glover, age 75, went home to be with the Lord on June 7, 2018, after a short stay at Vidants Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice. She was born May 22, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland. During her early childhood, the family moved, and Trudy was raised in the Spring Hope area. Trudy, as she was affectionately called, was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Rocky Mount and lived around forty years in a small community on Pleasant Hill Road. The last eight years she lived with her son and daughter-in-law Clay and Donna Matthews outside of Bethel, NC. There she watched her grandsons Jordan and Jacob Matthews mature into young men. They were her pride and joy. Trudy also leaves behind three sisters and one brother, Florine Davis of Tarboro; Lucille Miles of Roanoke Rapids; Shirley Finch and husband Walter of Bunn; and Willis Manning and wife Doreen of Tarboro. She also loved her many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her longtime best friend Jan Sherk. She was preceded in death by her parents Cornelius and Ophelia Manning, her husband William Leon Glover, a son Jerry Matthews, two sisters Etta Morgan and Jean Pipkin, and three brother Robert, Johnny and Earl Manning. Trudy retired from Burlington Industries where she worked as a supervisor. During her marriage to Leon, they would camp with the Good Sams Club, go flounder gigging and take in many Bluegrass festivals. She would often recall stories of many campgrounds to encourage Clay and Donna to visit them. She also traveled with her siblings, especially girls weekends at Myrtle Beach. She and Jan went out to lunch after church and made trips to the mountains to fill boxes for Samaritans Purse. Trudy also loved shopping. Many times it would be walks around Walmart that she said gave her exercise or shopping sprees to Belk for just one more new outfit. She really loved to buy for her sons and grandsons. A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home with services following at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Rocky Mount Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive visits all other times at their home in Bethel. In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to The Service League of Greenville Inpatient Hospice, 920 Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27835 or Southside Baptist Church, 4948 Carter Road, Elm City, NC 28722. Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. 1. I met Ms. Glover on her first trip to Golden Living Nursing Home. I passed by her door everyday and finally went in to introduce myself. From that day on, we had many good visits. I was always glad she was able to go home, but it seemed she kept coming back for one reason or another. She was a sweet lady and I enjoyed our talks. It was easy to see how much she loved her family. Please accept my sympathy and prayers. Naomi Coker Tarboro, NC
