ROCKY MOUNT – Gloria Jean Wilson, age 76, passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026. Born in Lackawanna, New York on February 23, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Simmes and Maryetta Reed. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Clifton Taylor; sisters, Patricia Jacobs, Deborah Taylor, and stepfather, Alton Taylor.
Gloria was the heart of her family – a woman whose love ran deep and steady, touching every life she encountered. She cherished every moment spent with those she held dear, whether it was gathering around the table, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other’s presence. Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion created a home filled with comfort and joy.
She had a gentle spirit and a generous heart, always ready to lend a listening ear or offer a word of encouragement. Gloria found her greatest happiness in caring for others, and her love was a constant source of strength for her family. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her quiet grace will be forever remembered and deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gloria is survived by her husband of 46 years, James E. Wilson; sons, Derek D. Prince, Jamar E. Wilson; stepdaughter, Jetaun Wilson Ross; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; Half-Sisters Susan Simmes-Nailor, Sonia Simmes, Marcia Baldon; Half-brother Darryl Simmes; Step-sister Altrina Taylor and host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on a later date.
