Irene J Hastings

ROCKY MOUNT - Irene J. Hastings, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Born in Salamanca, Guanajuato Mexico on October 20, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Tomas Jaime Almanza and Eustasia Nunez Garcia. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Hastings; her sisters, Julia Jaime Nunez, Maria Luisa Jaime Nunez, and Juana Jaime Nunez; and her brother, Bernardo Jaime Nunez. Irene was a devoted Catholic. She had always believed in the power of prayer and prayed often throughout her day, especially for her son. Irene enjoyed going to yard sales in her earlier years and then gardening. She was a lover of all of God's creatures, great and small. Irene was a supporter of different charities. She was the best mother a son could ever ask for, she was strong willed, supportive, and tried to make the best choices for her family. Irene was known for saying, "First, be at peace with God, then, be at peace with the rest of world." She had a servant's heart, always taking care of her family and friends when in need, whether it was working or simply providing caring guidance to those around her. A devoted homemaker, loving mother, and sister, she will be dearly missed and never forgotten. Irene is survived by her only son, Jose Hastings of Rocky Mount; her sisters, Isabel Jaime Nunes and Maria Del Carmen Jaime Nunez, both of Mexico; her brothers, Agustin Jaime Nunez, Jesus Jaime Nunez, and Antonio Jaime Nunez, all of Mexico; and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 331 Hammons Street, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Father Tim Mears officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Irene's memory to Disabled American Veterans, 251 North Main Street, Room 151, Winston-Salem, NC 27101; or Priests of the Sacred Heart, Post Office Box 900, Hales Corners, WI 53130.
