James Ray Wooten

ROCKY MOUNT – James Ray Wooten, Sr., age 77, passed away on Sunday, January 21, 2024. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on November 13, 1946, he was the son of the late Lawrence Vernon Wooten and Celia Elizabeth McKee. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Wooten. James proudly served his County in the United States Army. Often found watching western shows, James was also a man of great faith and was a long-time member of Sheffield Drive Church of Christ. He was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved nothing better than spending time with them. James will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten. James is survived by his children, Tammy Hoback (Roger), of Rocky Mount, James Ray Wooten II (Sherry), of Nashville, and Jennifer Joyner (Charles), of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, Sara Newman (Drew), Erin Ferrell (Michael), Jonathan Langrehr (Kristen) and Brittney Wells (Tyler); great-grandchildren, Dylan Newman, Preston Newman, Connor Newman, Colton Ferrell, Eli James Ferrell, Lawson Ferrell, Jase Langrehr, Carson Langrehr, and Kaisley Ray Wells; brother, Larry Wooten; and sister, Susan Waters (Johnny). A Funeral Service to celebrate James’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at 12:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Brock Hartwigsen and Pastor Roger Hoback officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Mount Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 11:00 AM to 11:45 AM prior to the service in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home.
