James Washington Sikes

ROCKY MOUNT - James Washington Sikes, age 74, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on November 8, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert James Sikes and Edna Heloise Sikes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Wayne Sikes, and William Grant Sikes; and brothers-in-law, Robert Perry, and Gene Perry. James retired from the US Air Force as a Master SGT after 20 years of service; He then went on to become a critical care paramedic for Meducare at MUSC in Charleston, SC that he also retired from; James then became a deputy sheriff for Berkeley County Sheriff's office in Moncks Corner, SC which he also retired from. James was also an assistant volunteer Fire Chief for Goose Creek City, SC. James was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved to play his guitar and sing. James was a member of the church band at Ashley Heights Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved nothing better than spending time with them. James will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family. James is survived by his wife, Debbie Perry Sikes; his daughter, Sandi Karin Sikes, of Summerville, SC; his son, James Bryan Sikes, Sr., of Cottageville, SC; his grandchildren, James Bryan Sikes, Jr., Tonya Sikes Shipman, Marissa Becker, and Sarah Becker; Several great-grandchildren; his sister, Louise Powell; his brother, Kenneth Lane Sikes and wife, Carol, of Nashville; his sister-in-law Claudia Sikes; and several nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 10 AM Thursday September 9, 2021 at Pineview Cemetery with Rev. Gordon Braxton and First Lady Judy Braxton officiating. A visitation with the family will follow the service at the graveside. In lieu of flowers donations made be made in James' memory to the charity of one's choice.
