MACON, NC – Jewel Reece Odom, “Reece Carpenter”, age 68, passed away on Saturday, December 7, 2024. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on May 13, 1956, she was the daughter of the late Thurman Earl Lewis.
Reece was a woman of many talents and interests. She was a skilled crocheter, creating beautiful pieces that she shared with family and friends. Reece had a deep love for the ocean and often spent time at the beach, admiring the lighthouses. A devoted television viewer, she particularly enjoyed watching “The Today Show”, and could tell you anything about Hoda. She also found joy in simpler pleasures, such as observing the birds and cats in her dining room, playing games on her phone, and working on word searches and puzzles. Reece was known for her kind and gentle spirit. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and offer words of encouragement. Reece will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends.
Reece is survived by her children, Clancy Carter (Shane), of the home, and Blair Carpenter (Amanda), of Nashville, NC; her grandchildren, Cheyenne Carter (Robert), Rocky Carter (Keya), Hannah Carpenter, and Gavin Carpenter; great-grandchildren, Mercari Thomas, and Railah Williams; her mother, Jewel Ann Hamill Jones; her brother, Scott Lewis; and her nieces, Lindsey Buck (Josh), and Katie Sloop (Jeremy).

I’m so sorry to hear of Reece’s passing. I’ve known Reece since elementary school. We grew up in the same neighborhood. We went through school together and worked together many years ago at Nash General Hospital. What a dear sweet soul she was with a tremendous heart. To the family, my heartfelt prayers and condolences.
Prayers are being lifted for Blair and his family and loved ones. May she now rest in peace!
So sorry to hear of Reese’s passing. I grew up with Reese in the Meadowbrook Park area of Rocky Mount. Friends all through school. Remember her smile and laugh! She always had a sweet spirit, no matter what. Sending sympathy and prayers to her family.
Love you Reece…
You were one of a kind…
Prayers for your entire family!
