John David Williams

August 12, 1929 ~ January 28, 2019

Rocky Mount - John David Williams Jr, 89, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2019. He was surrounded by family, friends and devoted caregivers at his beloved home. Born August 12, 1929 in Edgecombe county, NC, he was the son of the late John David Williams Sr. and Nellie Long Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Lee Williams and son, John David Williams III. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Flippin, son in law, Kevin Flippin, grandchildren Penelope Williams, Caleb Flippin, Jonah Flippin, nephew, David Horn and sister, Geraldine Horn. John D, also known as Papa, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He lived his life with a gentle and caring heart. That heart belonged first to his wife, Judy, who certainly welcomed him into the gates of Heaven with loving arms. They had celebrated 51 years of marriage before her passing in 2017. Their love and marriage was an example to all that knew them. After a long career with the railroad, he went on to deliver flowers in his retirement. Music was a great passion and he felt very fortunate to play the steel guitar in several bands for appreciative audiences for most of his life. He was an amazing musician, carpenter, painter, and poet. The family would like to send our deepest gratitude to the team at Nash Hospice. The quality of care that the entire family received was much appreciated. John D had three amazing caregivers who treated him with the utmost love and respect. Malinda, Jackie, and Ms. Moody, we truly feel blessed to have you in our lives. Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2 pm with family receiving friends starting at 1 pm at Johnson Funeral home. The burial will follow at Upper Town Creek Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804.
