Mrs. Joyce Joyner Puckett, 81, of Greenville NC, previously of Quarryville, passed away Thursday, September 14, 2023, at ECU Medical Center after a traumatic brain injury. Joyce was reunited with her husband, John who passed away in 2013.
Joyce was born in Nashville, NC. She was one of 15 children born to Ben and Estelle Joyner. Joyce and her husband John, moved to Pennsylvania in 1978 where they remained until John retired from Yellow Freight Trucking. Joyce began to drive Amish and loved having a taxi service with her husband John after his retirement. Amish driving was their passion for 20 plus years until they decided to become snowbirds in Florida and spent winters there until John passed away in 2013. In her younger years Joyce enjoyed sewing for her family and worked as a seamstress for many years before moving to PA. Once in PA, Joyce was a homemaker raising her daughter Josie and enjoying time with her son, Perry. Joyce had many friends who loved coming to her home to play cards, watch movies or just hang out and talk about anything and everything. Joyce enjoyed cleaning, yard work, baking for the Solanco Fair, hanging out with Josie and her friends and shopping. She loved being a mom, a sister, an aunt and especially a Mom-Mom to her grandchildren.
Joyce loved to have a purpose in life and that was to be a help to anyone who needed her. She was often found by her sister’s and brother’s side when they needed her. She moved back to NC a few years ago to help her siblings with doctor’s appointments and anything she could do to help the family.
Joyce was also an organ donor and was able to donate skin and tissue to help burn victims.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband John, her parents (Ben and Estelle Joyner), and six of her fifteen siblings.
She is survived by her children: Perry Strickland of Salsbury, NC, Sharon Pearce (Kevin) of Zebulon, NC and Josie Whitney (Mike) of Reading, PA; two grandsons, Evan (Heather) and Tyler, and 3 granddaughters: Joy (Ricky), Jessica (Joshua) and Alexis (Cameron), three great-granddaughters; Mackenzie, Gabriella and Adelia, three great-grandsons; Mason, Wyatt and Avery, 5 sisters, 3 brothers and many loving nieces and nephews.
