Kevin Francis Slowey, Sr.

ROCKY MOUNT – Kevin Francis Slowey, age 91, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023. Born in Queens County, New York on April 7, 1932, he was the son of the late Alexander Slowey and Anne Sexton Walsh. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Wesolowski Slowey; his stepfather, Thomas Walsh, and his two sisters, Patricia Tully and Veronica DuBrul. Kevin was a Specialist First Class in the U.S. Army, fighting in the Korean War and serving his Country actively from 1954-1956, and then in reserves for another 22 years. As a graduate of St. John’s University in Jamaica, NY, he won many debate competitions, was known for his oration skills and went on to be a member of the Jaycees. He was the Pipe Major for the first Bag Pipe Marching Band known as Friendly Sons of Shillelagh, marching in the New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, as well as in Dublin Ireland. Kevin worked for Greenlee Tool Company and retired as Executive Vice President. He won several awards for his presentations with Greenlee Tool. Kevin also served as the President of the Ocean Club in Long Island, New York, where his family spent many wonderful summers. During the early part of his retirement, Kevin started a landscaping company to keep busy. He loved playing golf with his wife and was President of the Resident Council where they lived. In 2018, Kevin moved to Rocky Mount, NC to live with his daughter, Nancy and son-in-law, Danny. During this time, he loved to keep busy in the yard. He loved his Jo & Ovi hand rolled cigars, Brandy, Sudoku Puzzles, as well as his Irish music. Kevin also had a love for his crazy socks, often having sock wars – and guess where they are now? Kevin was a loving husband, father and grandpa. He was a devout Christian that loved the Lord, teaching his kids to pray at a very early age and always keeping his family’s focus on the Lord. Kevin is survived by his children, Paul Slowey, of Cape Coral, Florida; Kathleen Cappelli and husband Steve of Griffin, Georgia; Nancy Morgan and husband Danny of Rocky Mount, NC; Kevin F. Slowey Jr. of Pittstown, New Jersey; Terence Slowey of S. Bound Brook, New Jersey; and Mark Slowey of Fort Myers, Florida. His grandchildren, Troy Cappelli, Jonathan Morgan (Step), Ryan Cappelli, Brittany Ross, Andrew Slowey, Jonathan Slowey, Kevin Peter Slowey, Terence Slowey Jr, Shannon Weldon, M. Christopher Slowey Jr., and Michael Slowey and great grandchildren, Quinn Cappelli, Cameron Cappelli, Vivian Cappelli, Victoria Ross, Seth Morgan (Step), Joel Morgan (Step), and Anna Beth Morgan (Step). A Celebration of Kevin’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 5:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM prior to the service in the parlor of Johnson Funeral Home.
