BURGAW - Kimberly G. Hunter, age 56, passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2021. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on February 21, 1965, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Sadie Mae Grimes.
Kim's favorite name was "Mama" until the grandchildren were born and she became "Ama". She had a wonderful way to make each child feel like they were her favorite while they were around, but loved them all equally. Her life's mission was to ensure that her children and grandchildren never experienced the struggles that she had to and that all of their needs, wants, and dreams came true. She would do whatever it took to help her family and friends, and often times that included strangers in need as well. Kim's passion was nursing and she was a dedicated nurse for almost 30 years. She loved nursing and always said achieving that goal was one of the proudest things she had done in her life. She worked in a variety of different nursing jobs including the Health Department, School Nursing, Emergency Departments, but her favorite was her time in the Mother-Baby Nursery helping new life come into this world. She loved being able to snuggle and care for the newborns and help their mothers learn to care for them.
Kim is survived by her husband of 21 years, William Hunter; her daughters, Nikki Mears and husband, Chuck, of Tarboro, Liz Norman and husband, Alan, of Tarboro, and Amber Hunter and Alex, of Spring Hope; her son, Doug Hunter of Spring Hope; her grandchildren, Makayla Mears, Tyler Mears, Brian Rodriguez, Lilah Rodriguez, and Zoe Rodriguez; her fur baby Max; and a host of other relatives and friends that loved her.

The monies collected will be used by her children and grandchildren to provide holiday cheer for a family in need this holiday season. Kim always found a way to give back to those in need during the holidays and other times throughout the year. She was always excited to find the perfect gift to light up someone's day and the family would like to honor her by keeping that tradition alive.
