ROCKY MOUNT– Linwood Crumpler Weeks, Sr., 88, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus, his Savior, on Saturday, December 14, 2024. A devoted husband and loving father, Linwood was preceded in death by his parents, John Silas Weeks, Sr., and Edna Crumpler Weeks, who raised their family in the Town Creek area of Wilson County. Also greeting him in heaven are his wife of 61 years, Mary Alice Jones Weeks; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Moore Weeks Petty and Vernon; Martha Barnes Weeks Gupton and Grover; his brothers, John S. Weeks, Jr., and his wife Lois; Joseph Weeks and his wife Clara, and Robert Weeks; his sisters-in-law, Barbara Jones Joyner and Rae Bass Jones; and brother-in-law Ryland T. Williamson.
Linwood played baseball in his youth and spoke proudly of pitching a no-hitter for Elm City High in 1954. The Wilson Daily Times described him as a “complete master.” In another game, with three at-bats, he hit a homerun, a double, and a single.
Linwood served in the U.S. Army in Korea.
For more than 30 years, Linwood delivered for UPS, a job he took after working at Burlington Industries in Rocky Mount. He enjoyed working in the family garden, producing tomatoes and butterbeans, and he liked tinkering with engines, so after retirement, he teamed up with his friend Joe Tomlinson and worked on lawn mowers.
A devoted Christian, Linwood attended Westview Baptist Church for many years.
He will be remembered by many as a gentle man of few words with a sweet spirit.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Linwood C. Weeks, Jr., and daughter-in-love Deanna Davis of Rocky Mount; son, David Weeks and daughter-in-law Anica of Nashville; son, Timothy Weeks and daughter-in-love Kyndra Kindler of Apex; and son Kenneth Weeks and daughter-in-love Erin Roarty of Raleigh. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Anna, Ian, and Mazzy, of Raleigh, along with his sister-in-law Marie Williamson and brother-in-law Leslie Jones, Jr., both of Rocky Mount, along with his nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Westview Baptist Church, 3408 Sunset Avenue, Rocky Mount, at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, December 18, 2024. Visitation with the family will be before the service, from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm.
Arrangements entrusted to Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 661 English Road, Rocky Mount, NC 27804. You may share memories and condolences with the family by visiting www.johnsonfuneralsandcremations.com.

I am sorry for your loss. My Dad used to hunt and fish with his brother, Robert. I don’t remember if he knew Linwood or not because I was very little at the time. My prayers are with your families during this difficult time. May God grant you peace, comfort, and strength when you need them the most.

Linwood, keeping you and your family close in prayer.
Uncle Linwood was a kind, gentle man. His big, contagious smile always made an impression on me even as far back as my childhood. We need more people like him in this world. He, like his older brother and my dad, John, died just before his birthday. I am happy that he is no longer suffering and is now with Mary Alice, his parents, and all of his brothers and sisters. As said in the Hopi Prayer, “Do not stand by my grave and weep. I am not there, I do not sleep.” I am glad to have had him as an uncle.
I didn’t know Mr. Weeks but I did know his family, his legacy. If they are a shadow of the man he was then the world mourns someone great and heaven rejoices that another solider is welcomed into the Lord’s arms. I’m praying for his family at this time.
