February 21, 1927 ~ August 31, 2017

Margaret (Maggie) Scruggs Murrill, widow of Joseph E. Murrill, died Thursday evening after a brief bout with pneumonia. She is survived by her children: Robert of Rocky Mount, NC; Paula of Charleston, SC; Mary Jo of Greenville, NC; and Kimberly and her fianc Jimmy Roberson of Rocky Mount, NC. Margaret was born on February 21, 1927 in Haywood County, NC, daughter to Clarence A. and Bertha Brooks Scruggs. She graduated from Waynesville Township High School and married Joe in 1950. After Joes untimely death, Margaret worked as a receptionist at Riverside Veterinary Hospital. She touched generations of people and their pets through her kind words and gentle care. 1. Bobby, Paula, Mary Jo and Kim, We are so very sorry to hear of your sweet Moms passing. Please know that we are keeping you all close in prayer. May God wrap his arms around you and bring you peace and comfort. Teresa and Al Bullard

  2. Margaret and Joe were married the year I was born, so all my memories are of the two of them – always together. They would come visit when in Waynesville, and Joe would say, Myrna, do you have any coffee It thrilled me, and young as I was, I would go to the kitchen to help daddy make the coffee. Sometime in the early 80s we took our children to the Outer Banks, and Margaret insisted we stay overnight with her on the way. When we returned home we received a box of her famous cheese straws. What a sweet, wonderful aunt. After seeing Kims post today, I can just imagine her reunion with Joe and with all the family members who have gone before her. My love to all of you, her wonderful children.

  3. I always took my pets to Riverside and she always had such a sweet way about her.I knew she would make sure my babies were well taken care of.I never knew her personally but we would recognize each other when we met other places and would talk for awhile. She was a sweet, soft spoken lady.I am sorry for your loss but she is rejoicing in heaven now.Prayers for all of her family.
