Mary P. Wood

ELM CITY - Mary Pridgen Wood, age 74, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021. Born in Nash County, NC on August 30, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Guy and Thelma Lamm Pridgen. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Guy Pridgen, Jr. Mary along with her husband Tommy owned and operated Wood's Machine Service. She was a very active member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary. Although Mary was a very independent and headstrong, she was also a very giving person and would do anything for anybody. She loved arts and crafts, painting, making jewelry were some of her favorite past times. However, her most treasured moments were spent with her husband, children and those grandchildren were especially special to her, the apple of her eye. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, "M", sister, and friend to all who knew her. Mary is survived by her husband of 55 years, Tommy Wood; her daughter, Ashleigh Weir and husband, Dennis, of Farmville; her son, Jeff Wood and wife, Kim of Elm City; her grandchildren, Dorian Weir, Stellan Weir, Kayla Wood and Matthew Wood; her sister, Paulette Pridgen; her brother, Andy Pridgen; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastors Lin Robinson and Tim Askew officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM prior to the service in Johnson Funeral Home. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Mary's memory to Rock Haven Church, 3438 S.
