Minerva Smellie

ROCKY MOUNT - Minerva Smellie, age 75, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2022. Born in Jamaica West Indies on August 18, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Lance Clarke and Mae Benjamin Clarke. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Pastor John Denham Smellie; her sister, Shirley Fortella; and her brother, Whitley Clarke. Minerva loved being a housewife. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and putting clothes out on the line. She was a post mistress for over 20 years. Minerva loved to travel and visit with her family all over the world. She loved her church and enjoyed volunteering to help serve others in need. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family. Minerva is survived by her daughters, Sharmaine Cruz and husband, Carlos, of Rocky Mount, and Natalie Kong and husband, Andrew, of England; her sons, Andrew Smellie, of Jamaica West Indies, Christopher Smellie, of Rocky Mount, and Denham Smellie, of Rocky Mount; her grandchildren, Theresa Crus, Melinda Cruz, Carlos D. Cruz, Tedria Smellie, Elaina Smellie, Brian Kong, Johnathan Kong, and Paris Smellie; her great-granddaughter, Mya Cruz; her sisters, Lyew Kong, of Canada, Coleen Russ, of Florida, and Angela Beckford, of Florida; her brother, Fabian Clarke, of Canada; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Minerva's Life will be held on Friday, February 25, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev.
