Modell Medlin Bell 1928-2016, a kind, giving, gentle soul and loving wife and mother passed away peacefully in her sleep at her daughters home in Rocky Mount on November 26, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Preston Bell; one son, Bennie Bell, who is survived by wife Jennie Bell Connor; five brothers, Norman, Felton, Bill, James Curtis and Jerry Vernell and three sisters; Maybelle Brantley, Violet Medlin and Linda Medlin.
Modell leaves behind to cherish her memory, children, Betty Jo Turner (Marvin) of Rocky Mount, Don Bell (Charleen) of Raleigh, Bonnie Joyner (Malory) of Elm City and Barry Bell (Rena) of Greenville, NC. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Tammy Lester, Michael Turner (Tammy), Kim Frazier (Keith), Melanie Medlin (James), Tonya Shaw, Robin Wood (James), Jeremy Sanders, Brandon Bell (Camila), Brian Bell (Candace) and Bethany Sanderson (Adam), seventeen great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Rose Whitley. She was a member of Englewood Assembly of God and she began serving God at a very young age at Middlesex Church of God where she grew up. Her love, thoughts, actions and service touched all those around her especially her family that she loved dearly. She passed her love of music on to her children and grandchildren. The family singings that we had at her home during our family Christmas times meant so much to her. She would sit in her chair and direct us as she did many times with our church choir as she sat in the congregation with that index finger.
In addition to being a retired piano teacher, she was the Choir Director at Rocky Mount Wilkins Street Church of God of Prophecy, Saint Paul United Methodist Church and Union Missionary Baptist Church. She sang in the Englewood Assembly of God church choir for many years and her love of music continued throughout her life. She also retired from Hertzberg Furs in Rocky Mount.
