Ollie Adron Bass Jr., 91, a lifelong resident of Nash County, died on March 5, 2017 at Rocky Mount Rehabilitation.
He was born March 23, 1925 to the late Ollie A. Bass, Sr. and Annie Lee Strickland Bass. He attended Rocky Mount schools, served in the US Army during World War II, and later attended Presbyterian Junior College and Elon College on the GI Bill.
He married Joan Elizabeth Williams on October 7, 1950 and they were married for sixteen years. In 1968 he married Sally James Crowe and celebrated 45 years together before her death on October 4, 2013.
Ollie was an avid golfer and member of Benvenue Country Club for over 55 years and loved surf fishing at Cape Point on Hatteras Island.
He is survived by his children, Ollie Bass III of Costa Rica, Anna Bass Rauh and her husband Nick of Lafayette, Ind., Ashley Bass and his wife Cathy of Nashville; stepson the Rev. Dr. John Marshall Crowe and his wife Donna of Goldsboro, seven grandchildren and a great-grandson. The family thanks special caregiver Angie Daniel.
Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Bass Perritt.
Family and friends are welcomed to a celebration of Ollies life to be held on Sunday, March 26, 2017 between the hours of 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM at the home of Ashley and Cathy Bass of Nashville.
