  14. I worked alongside Oscar at Pepperidge Farm in the mid-late ’70’s. We took baskets of 10 loaves of bread off of a conveyer belt and stacked them 10 high on dollies, and loaded the stacks onto tractor-trailer trucks for delivery at distribution points. Oscar had a quiet sense of dignity but was also cheerful and friendly. Sorry for your loss — Steve Melino

  15. Dear Buddy, my heart was saddened when I learned of your passing. Although you left this world on March 10, 2024, it was clearly God who put you on my heart and led me to search the internet on June 19, 2024 because I had not heard from you in several months. This is where I discovered your obituary.

As I sit and reflect, I try to understand why we did not have a closer or longer relationship, but God knows, and I am comforted by His divine will in our lives. I am grateful and thankful to God for the times we did have. Thank you for assuring me that you loved me and sharing that you were proud of me and the life I’ve made with God’s help. Your visit to Georgia in 2003 was a testament of this. It was during this visit that God healed the little girl in me who desired her father. I am thankful you were able to meet your grandsons and the time you spent together. I am also reminded of a conversation we had just before you were leaving my home to go visit a friend in Augusta. I needed to ask about your relationship with God because I wanted to be sure I would see you in heaven. In my heart, I believe I will see you around the throne worshipping with me and all our loved ones. I also remember another special time in Georgia where we met with my sister Brenda and Rhonda, which was wonderful.
Coming to Rocky Mount and getting the chance to meet Mrs. Cat and spend time in your home was special and I am so grateful for that opportunity. I was so happy when you took me to visit your family and friends in North Carolina.
All these special moments came to mind as I sat remembering you! I thank God for giving me an amazing father like you, a man who was kind, loving, caring, considerate, joyful, neat, clean, classy, thoughtful, respectful, and confident. You will always be in my ❤️ and on my mind. Rest in peace. Love you so much! Your daughter Priscilla “Gale” Brown
