Ruth Simmons Cooke

ROCKY MOUNT - Alma Ruth Simmons Cooke, age 88, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2020. Born in Wilson County on August 16, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Mack Daniel and Daisy Bell Bottoms Simmons. She was also preceded in death by her husband Percy Thomas Cooke; her sisters, Jean S. Farmer and Nell S. Speight; her brother, M.D. Simmons. Ruth was a lifetime member of Falls of the Tar River Baptist Church and she loved her church family, and her many friends. She loved to make baby dolls and clothes for them. Ruth had a collection of over 3,000 baby dolls, giving each baby doll a name. She also enjoyed to sew. Ruth enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. Ruth is survived by her son, Ricky Cooke of Rocky Mount; her daughter, Sonia Cooke Shearin of Nashville, TN; her granddaughter, Charlie K. Parker of Nashville, TN; her brothers, D.O. Simmons and his wife, Helen, and Jack Simmons, both of Rocky Mount; her sister, Judy S. Walston of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
