ROCKY MOUNT – Shelby Faye McClenny Stevens, age 78, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Born in Halifax County, NC on January 5, 1945, she was the daughter of the late William James McClenny and Lillie Mae Nines McClenny Wallace. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Dwight W. Stevens; her sister, Ann Riley; and her stepfather, Ted Wallace. Shelby was the glue that kept her family together and on the straight and narrow. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her, but her loving spirit will never be forgotten as she was everything to her family. Shelby is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Wallace, Tammy Barrile (Bryan), Michelle Grissom (Cory), and Velvet “Dawn” Bradshaw; her son, Michael Stevens; her thirteen grandchildren; and her ten great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Edna McClenny (Roger) and Betty Hux (Hillery). 3. To the family, I am so sorry to read of Faye’s passing. I remember her as a sweet lady who brought many video tapes to my sister Phyllis and me at Memory Makers Video for copies and through those, we got to know Faye pretty well. It was always a joy to listen to her talk about her family along with her mama Lillie whom she cared for in Roanoke Rapids. She shared with us the joys of her family’s celebrations during holidays, how her family was always growing along with the many babies that were born and of her love
for animals. Our business closed in 2006 but I was still able to do some video work for her and I would carry it by her house. It was there I got to visit with her and Dwight. She showed me the many crochet creations she had and I also learned she WAS Elvis’ #1 fan, you all knew it!! She had a tag on her car stating just that!
Faye, may you rest in peace and I know you are with your loved ones there in Heaven. May God continue to watch over your family.
