ROCKY MOUNT – Shelton Clyde Gallop, II, age 77, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026. Born in Nash County, NC on October 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Shelton Clyde Gallop and Ella Ruth Coker Gallop. He was also preceded in death by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Faith was an important part of Clyde’s life. He was a faithful member of Marvin Methodist Church, where he attended regularly and remained devoted until the church eventually closed its doors. Clyde loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Clyde was a man whose life was marked by curiosity, learning, and a deep appreciation for the past. A devoted student of genealogy and history, he spent much of his life researching family roots and studying the stories that shaped generations. He found great joy in tracing lineages and preserving the histories of families and communities, passions that remained with him throughout his life.

In addition to his love of history, Clyde had a remarkable gift for music. He loved playing the piano and could play beautifully.

Clyde was also a lifelong learner. He earned his bachelor’s degree from NC Wesleyan College, and his thirst for knowledge never faded. Over the years he continued taking courses and pursuing higher education, coming close to obtaining both a law degree and a CPA certification. His dedication to learning reflected his belief that it is never too late to grow and expand one’s mind.

Clyde will be remembered as a thoughtful man who valued knowledge, cherished history, and found beauty in music. His love for faith, learning, and family heritage will remain a lasting part of the legacy he leaves behind.

Clyde is survived by his cousin, Anna Creef.

  1. So sorry to hear about Clyde. I was in elementary school with him at Benvenue where we became friends. I would see him every couple of years at the library. He was a talker and always had something to say. I will miss seeing him.

  2. I grew up going to Marvin Church and I remember Clyde attending and often playing the piano in the educational building. He was a smart man with a kindred heart and soul and will be missed by all ! Rest in Peace Clyde

  3. Tonight there is joy in heaven with Clyde joining his mother and dad . He was a most faithful worshipper at his church MARVIN METHODIST, being there for every service each Sunday. With his desire to learn he pursued schooling until the end of his earthly life. History and family studies were his favorite interest and greatest enjoyment. Quiet, mannerly and the gentleman he was , he will be missed by many that knew him. Carole Coats and family that churched together for 60 years.

  4. I was sorry to hear of Clyde’s passing. He was a faithful member of FUMC after Marvin Street closed. I miss seeing him in the pew he always sat on at the 11:00 service. He always loved to talk about the history of his family. RIP Clyde.
