Virginia H. Tippett

September 21, 1935 ~ July 30, 2023

WHITAKERS– Virginia H. Tippett, age 87, departed this earth for eternal rest on Sunday, July 30, 2023. Born in Halifax County, NC on September 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Claude Hux and Mable Hux. She was also proceeded in death by her loving husband of 42 years, Thomas Tippett, sisters Jeanette Behlam and Elizabeth Dickens. Affectionately known as “Nanny” to many, never complained during her journey of illness and fought until the very end. Virginia was educated in the Halifax County, NC School System, where she went on to be a substitute teacher for many years serving several schools. She was also a dedicated servant of the Lord and faithful in her attendance at Hickory Baptist Church. Virginia was present at church every Sunday, and any other day that her church was having any type of service, dinner, or fellowship event. She loved singing in the choir. If she couldn’t drive to church, someone always made sure she had a ride there (Thanks Dick Crickmore). Virginia was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to so many. She loved spending time in her yard planting flowers, knitting, shopping, and spending time with friends. Her cooking was to die for. Virginia also loved her sweet tea, but most of all she loved being in the presence of her family for any occasion. Virginia had the heart of a servant, always making sure her family and friends were okay and always checking to see if she could do anything for them. She was truly loved and will be dearly missed by everyone that knew her. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Susan Beasley, of Raleigh, NC, and Jennifer Davis, of Wilson, NC; her son, Tommy Tippett (Sylvia) of Enfield, NC; her grandchildren, Chris Beasley (Lindsey), Stephanie Beasley (Fiancé, John), Robert Davis (Leslie), Sarah Seliga (Tony), and Jason Tippett; her great-grandchildren Brooklyn Davis, Laney Seliga and Audrey Seliga; her sister, Margie Ingledue; and two special friends, Sarah Watson and Lila Mae Joyner. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Hickory Baptist Church, 12702 NC Highway 48, Whitakers, NC 27891 with Pastor Wendy Edwards officiating. A visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 2:45 PM prior to the service in the Sanctuary of Hickory Baptist Church. Burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery at 23 Justice Branch Road, Enfield, NC.
