William "Bill" Calvin Butler

ROCKY MOUNT – William “Bill” Butler, age 69, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025. Born in Edgecombe County, NC on January 8, 1955, he was the son of the late Aubrey Eugene Butler and Delores Harvey Hux. He was also preceded in death by his wives, April Maxim and Charmaine Beachum; and his half-brother, Gene Butler.
Bill was a dedicated employee of the Cummins Rocky Mount Engine Plant for over 40 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and the genuine affection for his coworkers. Beyond the factory floor, Bill had a deep appreciation for music. He could often be found enjoying a variety of genres, while sitting in front of his top of the line stereo system. Bill had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, owning a Harley-Davidson early in life and maintaining that connection throughout his life. He had a kind heart and a deep love for all animals. Bill cherished time spent with his family, especially the bonds he shared with his nieces and nephews, who always brought a smile to his face.
Bill is survived by his brother, Danny Butler, of Rocky Mount, NC; his sister, Joan Otto, and husband Randy, of Garner, NC; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 3:15 PM in the Chapel of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Pastor Connie Shoemaker officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service in the Parlor of Johnson Funeral Home.

Bill, you were a fantastic co-worker and friend. Working with you Bill was always a pleasure and I never witnessed you having a bad day and you displayed a real jest for life and friends. Friends, myself included, along with family have stated how much you meant to them in their lives and how much you will be missed. Bill was a fantastic person. He never seemed to have a bad day and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Our conversations always started with him asking how’s things in the Neck (referring to Scotland Neck). You will be greatly missed by all. RIP my friend.
Bill was truly one of a kind. He was one of the most ethical and committed people I’ve ever had the opportunity to work with.
There were times when I wasn’t feeling at my best, but meeting Bill, with his positive energy, always lifted my spirits and gave me new motivation. I learned something valuable every day from my interactions with him, and I deeply appreciate the time and dedication he gave to Cummins.

Bill, I always enjoyed our talks in the Lab. You were a good friend and I will cherish the conversations about music, guns, motorcycles, and sports. Your easy going manner and knowledge, always helped in the trying times at RMEP. You will be missed, my friend!! Until we meet again.
I am saddened to hear about Bill. I pray for comfort and peace during this difficult time.
During the times that I interfaced with Bill at CDC/CMEP he was always calm and collected even during calamity. He was willing to share his knowledge of part measurements and in a way that was easy to understand. He was a great resource to operators up thur management and any others.
A gentle soul has transitioned over and I can only say, “Rest in his presence and God Bless his (Bill’s) memory by all.
We will miss you Bill.
Worked will Bill at the Freez many years ago as well as rode dirt bikes with him. So so t ry to hear of his passing. Peace be with his family.
As many have shared, he will be much missed, but never forgotten. We feel privileged and very fortunate to have had the opportunity to know and share good times with Bill!

Bill my sweet friend for almost 26 years now. I will miss you beyond measure and the Ginnie Grinders will never taste the same since I won’t be cooking them for you and watching a movie afterwards at your house. I will think of you whenever I do make them again. I will forever cherish our memories that Rick and I have of and with you. May God hold you in his arms (and explain the speed limit up there for Harley’s) Comfort and Peace to the family and friends. We lost a one-of-a-kind loving friend that always had a smile. Never ever saw you mad in all those years. What a legacy to leave.
Great man You will truly be missed
