ROCKY MOUNT – William Earl Overton, age 77, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Born in Nash County, NC on June 11, 1945, he was the son of the late John Overton and Anne Haithcock Overton.
Earl was a man of great faith; he was a charter member of Englewood United Methodist Church. He was a member of the men’s club, where they cooked peanuts to ship out all over the world and cooked many meals for the church. He was a great cook and had owned many restaurants through the years. Earl enjoyed fishing and coin collecting. He loved to take care of people and was an Eagle Scout and assistant Scout Master. He was one that never complained, even if he was having a bad day, he would tell you he was “Fabulous.” Earl loved to travel to the mountains, to the beach, especially Portsmouth Island, and taking cruises. He was the 2022 pumpkin roll champion at the family’s Thanksgiving gathering. Earl loved Christmas, he would put up as many decorations as he could and several Christmas trees every year. He enjoyed watching the NC States games. He loved all kinds of animals, especially his best friend, Stormy. He enjoyed doing yard work. He was a family man, and extremely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved nothing better than spending time with them. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his loving spirit will never be forgotten as he was everything to his family.
Earl is survived by his wife of 38 wonderful years, Judy McClintock Overton; his daughter, Amy Linville and husband Rob, of Winston-Salem; his son, Billy Andersen of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Alex Dapp (Danielle), Madeline Linville (Daniel), and Melissa Roth; his great-grandchildren, Jackson Dapp, Amara Roth, and Chance Roth; his sister, Becky Hillburn and husband, Joe, of Raleigh; his brother, Crayton Overton and wife, Sylvia, of Rocky Mount; and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Earl’s Life will be held on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Englewood United Methodist Church, 300 S. Circle Drive, Rocky Mount, NC 27804 with Rev. Nathan Wittman officiating. I enjoyed working with Mr. Earl. He was always kind and just a joy to be around. He taught me a lot about good work ethic and being respectful all while enjoying life/work. Praying for comfort and peace for the family.
Omg, It saddens me to see that my dear friend have left us. I loved Earl so much. We shared some great memories together at Papa John’s Pizza. The double duo, Toni and Earl. It was said that, Toni and Earl could move some deliveries, and the customers loved us. My Prayers and Condolences goes out to Judy and the family. Earl will be truly missed. Rest My Friend, until we meet again 🙏🙏🙏
Remember Earl well. He was always smiling. We went to school at Benvenue.
